Profile of the Ohr HaEmet Beit Midrash in Elad
The Ohr HaEmet beit midrash in Elad was founded in June 2000 to fill the need of community avreichim who didn't find a local kolel in which to learn.
Since Elad was a new settlement the number of Kollels was few in number and the number of avreichim far outnumbered the available spots. The avreichim turned to our Rabbi due to his experience in Torah and student relations.
Besides the regular subjects covered in the kolel studies is the emphasis on self improvement and mussar studies. Rabbi Ben David gives a twice weekly mussar class besides his own personal mussar learning times.
The main focus of the Rav is to create leaders and future Rabbis for the coming generation. In this concern, each avreich gives an hour and a half class to build up experience in public speaking and to boost confidence in public relations.
Another beit midrash that was opened is for community baalei teshuva who requested a learning framework so they may toil in Torah learning also. For this role, a separate Yeshiva was opened that is divided into three levels to fit the needs of the members.
For these dear members who toil with all their might Torah classes are given daily by great Torah scholars in Gemara and Jewish law.
From time to time, the amount of benches increase in the beit midrash and presently there are 100 men who attend.
In addition to these two programs, a half day learning program was started for working men who choose to invest a few hours a day to Torah studies. And therefore the Baalei batim kolel was started between the hours of 9am-1pm.
In this framework 30 men participate and classes are given on the following topics: weekly parsha, navi, gemara and mussar.
As earlier mentioned, the daily class, given over by the members of the kolel for an hour and a half is from 5:30-7pm and many residents of Elad attend.
