Talmud Torah Pinsk Karlin

The establishment of the Pinsk Karlin Talmud Torah was enthusiastically encouraged by the Rebbe zt"l in the year 5737, as he gathered his closest associates in his house and asked them to found a Talmud Torah which would run 'al taharas hakodesh' and be named after Rav Avraham Elimelech zy"a. An apartment was rented for the Talmud Torah in the "Beis Yisrael" neighborhood in Yerushalayim.

Only a small number of students was recruited at first, but very quickly the Talmud Torah expanded until the apartment became unbearably overcrowded. The number of talmidim grew steadily, and several other apartments had to be rented to accommodate the higher grades. An urgent need was aroused for a permanent building which could house all the classes. The Pinsk Karlin administration came up with a plan to purchase all the apartments and yards behind the main Beis Medrash in order to erect a permanent building for the Talmud Torah at the site. The Rebbe warmly endorsed the idea and blessed the initiators with much success. The fundraising for the building took place at the Rebbe's house, who greeted all those who stepped through his threshold with the question: "Who wishes to give nachas to the Rebbe in Gan Eden?" The Rebbe succeeded in raising all the necessary funds for the building, and gave a special coin to all those who had generously donated for the cause.

Unfortunately, in the midst of construction, the Rebbe passed away. The administration saw it as its sacred plight to complete the construction of the Talmud Torah and so finally, in 5748, the Pinsk Karlin Talmud Torah's new building stood tall and erect.

As the years passed by, several new wings were added to the building in order to accommodate the ever-increasing number of talmidim. The board members of the hanhala ruchanis were those who set the spiritual goals for the Talmud Torah and established the appropriate frameworks in order for the talmidim to thrive and grow. The 'Chevras Tefillah' group was established in the Beis Medrash, where the students would receive a live demonstration of deep prayer that lifts the soul and raises the spirit by Rav Zalman Brizel zt"l. Additionally, the Awards Foundation encouraged the talmidim to learn thousands of Gemara pages and mishnayos. They would then receive their awards by the elderly members of the community at special prize-giving ceremonies.

As the Rebbe zt"l took upon himself the yoke of leadership, the administration of the Talmud Torah received an added boost as the Rebbe was an expert in education, having worked in the field for several years. The Rebbe was heavily involved in the running of the Talmud Torah and gave constant pedagogical advice and educational guidance. During his lifetime, the Rebbe forged a deep, personal bond with each and every one of the talmidim as he helped them ascend the ladder of success in Torah and tefillah. When the students would stand before him to demonstrate their achievements in learning, the Rebbe radiated happiness and pleasure and lavished praise and compliments on them with immense joy.

Today, the Rebbe shlit"a is following in the footsteps of his holy father zt"l, and devotes himself completely to the success of the Talmud Torah. The talmidim have a special zechus, as they merit to recite the morning prayers with the Rebbe every day.
All those who observe the talmidim of the Pinsk Karlin Talmud Torah can unmistakably determine that their faces glow with a special beam of pureness.
