about us

David Began to lose interest in his surrounding…his emotional state deteriorated he became introverted, frightened and depressed without reacting to those around him. After three months of hospitalization, the worst possibility was found… David is emotionally ill…David loses his place at work and returns home…one week, two weeks and again more deterioration…David is hospitalized again…this time for eight years.

For eight years his children wait for their father. He is alive but not there.Their mother is heart broken and at a loss to answer the children's questions who fail to understand what has happened to their father. They are lost in the world and their lot is tears…

Today, after having been helped by Bayit Cham, David is a talented silversmith and even teaches his trade to groups of other men being rehabilitated. This is but one example of hundreds of the work of Bayit Cham.

Rabbi Shmuel Munk took upon himself to prevent terrible indescribable suffering by rehabilitating the emotionally ill, giving them employment, guidance and support and absorbing them within the healthy community. Thank G-d many people who were hospitalized for years in closed wards without any hope have returned to life of the living.

We are making great efforts to solve the problem of residence that troubles the patient and his family, by the establishment of a hostel that is in the planning stages at the present. Thereby those who suffer now will be given a solution 24 hours a day.

"If the body becomes ill, the soul will heal it. If the soul becomes ill, who will heal it and who will bear his illness"(Rabeinu Yona, Shaar 4)

The following are programs that Bayit Cham runs:

  • Supported employment of 240 rehabilitated patients
  • Sheltered enterprise of 50 rehabilitated patients
  • Rehabilitative clubs
  • Transportation for the patients to their work places
  • Food for the same patients
  • Professional guidance and counseling
  • Support groups for family members
  • Visits to those in closed wards
  • Yearly budget-$1,100,000
